Is there an alternative to a smartmedia memory card for my Olympus C-4000?

I am looking for more memory than the 16 MB one that I have but all the smartmedia ones I find seem expensive and they don't go very high as far as memory space. Just wondering if there might be another card I can put in the slot that would work.

  1. It appears that you are correct on all accounts, they are limited in capacity, expensive per MB and unless you can find an adapter, you are out of luck,
  2. Olympus started using the xD (Fujifilm did too). SmartMedia was popular in digital cameras, and reached its peak in about 2001 when it was used by nearly half of the digital cameras of the time. Problems developed when cards larger than 128 MB were not available and the compact digital cameras were reaching a size where even SmartMedia were too big to be convenient. IF you decide to replace the camera, look for those that use SD memory cards. All but three camera companies use them.
  3. Unfortunately, you can only use Smartmedia and the largest card they made was a 128MB. Olympus has a store website where the cards can be purchased but the 128MB cards are 75.99, they also have a repair exchange program you can get a discounted price off a new camera but trading in this one. You can call Olympus and get more information at 1-888-553-4448
